RESTRICTED TRAVEL

Project undertaken February - May 2021 - Self-Published Book

During the third coronavirus lockdown and following the UK roadmap to recovery. I documented my own roadmap, living and creating a journey within the rules of restricted travel.

A busy promenade at Weston-super-Mare with people walking in the sun, featuring an older man in a straw hat and denim shirt in the foreground and the white towers of the Grand Pier in the background, by Matthew Morgan.

The first six weeks felt confining, as familiar surroundings became repetitive and emotionally restrictive. Feelings of isolation, frustration, and a sense of distance from loved ones were central to this period. As restrictions gradually eased, the project evolved into a journey towards the coast, a place of calm and personal significance, mirroring the slow return of everyday life.

The work captures subtle changes over twelve weeks as travel restrictions in England were gradually lifted. This project allowed me to reflect on resilience, movement, and the quiet shift back towards ‘normality’, highlighting how change often occurs gradually rather than all at once.
