PEN-Y-CAE, A SHIRT THAT MAKES YOU FEEL PART OF SOMETHING BIG

Positioned in the rolling hills of North Wales, the small village of Pen-Y-Cae might appear a quiet village, but in this small community, there’s a real sense of pride around their football team. Pen-Y-Cae Football Club is more than just a team for its players; it’s a place where its youth teams come together from all over the area, enjoying the sun, wind and ‘braving’ the rain to play the game they love. For many, it’s the opportunity to kick a ball, make friends, and be part of a community that values sportsmanship and team spirit.

At the helm of the Under-8s side is Matt Wilcox, a coach who is passionate about getting kids playing football and away from their phone screens. Matt believes strongly in the power of sport to keep young people active, engaged, and connected.

With a vision to inspire even more creativity and involvement, Matt had an idea to give the kids a chance to leave their mark on the team. Teaming up with Macron Sports Hub Wrexham known for their commitment to supporting the local community, the idea to launch a unique competition started. The challenge? To design a brand-new kit for the Under-8s side. The winning design would be professionally manufactured and printed by Macron Sports Hub Wrexham.

Tess is the proud winner of the competition. Her concept was simple yet powerful: the stripes symbolized the unique skills and personalities of her teammates, yet together they formed unity.

Once Tess’s design was chosen, the next step was bringing it to the pitch. Macron Sports Hub Wrexham turned her vision into a reality, the result exactly how Tess imagined it.

Her team quickly embraced her design, with many saying it’s their favourite shirt to wear. For Tess the moment she put on the shirt made her feel a truly valued member of the team, and in that moment knew her team would win the game.

It’s clear this simple competition achieved more than getting the kids away from electronic devices, it sparked their creativity and further deepened their connection to the team. The children weren’t just designing a kit, they were contributing to something bigger, to take a pride in, the experience brought the community closer together. “Our community, our club, our cae” is the ‘motto’ that Pen-Y-Cae lives by.

Macron Sports Hub Wrexham has been a crucial partner in this journey, standing by Pen-Y-Cae FC every step of the way. Macron will continue to support the community and be an integral part of the club’s future, looking forward to their next creative endeavour.
