JANE: THE WOMAN BEHIND THE COSTUMES AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT AT CORWEN FC

Corwen FC is more than a football club—it’s a family, and Jane Claybrook is at its heart.

For over a decade, Jane Claybrook has been a driving force behind Corwen FC. Not just as a club secretary and safeguarding officer, but also as a parent. Known for her spirited commitment, unwavering support, and a wardrobe of ‘interesting’ costumes, Jane has helped shape the club into a hub where football meets family.

Founded in 1877, Corwen FC is one of Wales’s oldest football clubs and a proud symbol of North Wales’ rich footballing tradition. With deep roots in the market town of Corwen in Denbighshire, the club has long reflected the bilingual identity of the region—regularly embracing the Welsh language in its communication, culture, and community engagement. The club’s red and black kits are not only iconic but speak to its enduring identity in the heart of Cymru.

Jane’s journey began the way many grassroots stories do: through her daughter. “A friend told me about Corwen, said that Skinny was there-another huge presence at the club-and that’s how my daughter got started,” Jane recalls. “She had a great time. That was it, we haven’t looked back since.”

Her daughter would go on to progress through the age groups and eventually return to the club as a coach—forming Corwen FC’s first-ever under-11 girls' team. But Jane’s own role only deepened over time. In between ensuring safeguarding standards and managing administrative duties, Jane's focus has always remained crystal clear: supporting young people.

“It’s about figuring out what they want from being here—whether that’s playing competitively, being with friends, or just loving the game,” she says. “Keeping the kids and parents onboard is a big part of what I do. It’s rewarding.”

Jane also highlights the club’s long-standing and valued relationship with Macron Wrexham—one of Macron’s oldest and most loyal partners in the region. “The team at Macron Wrexham feel like extended family,” she says. “They’ve supported us through every age group, every new kit, every big moment.” From launching custom kits in Corwen’s traditional colours to providing apparel across all squads, Macron has become deeply embedded in the club’s day-to-day and identity. For a grassroots club like Corwen, that consistent and local support has been invaluable—not just functionally, but emotionally. It’s not just a kit provider; it’s a partnership rooted in loyalty, trust, and shared pride in Welsh football.

What sets Corwen apart, Jane says, is its sense of belonging. From casual cups of tea at teammates’ houses before training to inclusive get-togethers, it's the kind of club where bonds stretch well beyond the touchline. “The social aspect keeps me sane.”

Of course, no account of Jane’s contributions would be complete without a mention of her legendary matchday costumes. Whether it’s a hotdog suit invading the pitch or some other wacky ensemble, her playful antics have become folklore at the club—further proof that football isn’t just about the game, but about joy, community, and connection.

In a town where Welsh heritage is proudly preserved and football is more than a sport, Jane Claybrook and Corwen FC represent the very best of grassroots. With Macron Wrexham standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them, the club continues to thrive—rooted in history, lifted by community, and dressed for every challenge in the colours of pride.
